Windows 7 beta

Today I am trying out the windows 7 beta on a few of differnt laptops. I will post more about the actual OS later.

Laptop #1 Dell Precision M65
Intel T2400 1.83GHz, 2GB ram, 80GB HD, 512MB Nvidia Quadro FX 350M
Installation was very fast, but did not find correct graphics card driver. Even after installing correct ones, I still could not get the correct resolution.

Laptop #2 Dell Inspiron Mini 9
Intel Atom 1.6GHz, 1GB ram, 16GB SSD, Intel GM950
Installation was extremely slow, probably because of the solid state drive.

Laptop #3 Asus EEEpc 1000HA
Intel Atom 1.6GHz, 1GB Ram, 160GB HD, Intel GM950
Installed almost as fast as the Dell workstation laptop.

Scanning in old photos

For the past few months I have been working on scanning in all of my old photos. I bought a HP scanjet G4010 scanner for the this project. It only took me about about 30 hours of research before purchasing it. I tend to overdo research for anything I buy. All of my research showed me that it probably did not matter what I bought.

So far it has done a really good job with the photos, but it can be a little slow. I can’t really blame the scanner, it is looks like any scanner would be about the same speed. I tried a $3000 epson scanner, and it was not any faster. After scanning about 300 photos, I feel like have all of the settings mastered. I was just able to scan in some really dark photos, and make them look pretty good. I will post some before and after shots.

My goal is to finish scanning in the last two boxes of photos in the next few of months. I would say that is a conservative estimate. After this is done, I never want to see a film camera again.

My Favorite Twitter tools

Here are a few of the twitter tools I use the most.

For the Blackberry I have been using Twitterberry. The current version is .08. I just upgraded to it from version .06. Using the blackberry browser to twitter is slow. This app gives you a direct connection for updates.

For the Desktop, I use TweetDeck. It is an Adobe Air application and still in a really early beta. I really like how you can customize it to show all of your twitter groups.

For finding who to follow, I use Mrtweet. They show you why you should be following people following you, and who the people you follow are following. Is everybody following that?
